JOB PURPOSE or JOB SUMMARY: 

The Logistics Operations Supervisor – Second Shift is responsible for leading daily warehouse and logistics operations during the assigned shift, including shipping, receiving, inventory control, and Team performance. This role supports the Logistics Operations Manager by ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient execution of all activities, while driving service improvements and cost control initiatives. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Operations Leadership 

  • Lead by example 

  • Supervise and coordinate second shift warehouse operations including shipping, receiving, staging, and material handling 

  • Ensure on-time and accurate order fulfillment to support customer service expectations 

  • Execute daily workload planning aligned with volume forecasts and business priorities 

  • Monitor workflow to optimize productivity, throughput, and labor utilization 

  • Partner with the first shift supervisor to ensure effective shift handoffs and continuity 

Team Leadership & Development 

  • Lead, coach, and develop hourly Team members to meet performance, safety, and quality expectations 

  • Conduct daily start-up meetings to communicate priorities, safety topics, and performance goals 

  • Provide ongoing feedback, coaching, and performance management 

  • Support hiring, onboarding, and training of new Team members 

  • Promote a positive, engaged, and accountable Team culture 

Safety & Compliance 

  • Enforce all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements 

  • Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions 

  • Ensure compliance with trade regulations, documentation standards, and company policies 

  • Maintain proper housekeeping and organization following 5S or similar standards 

Inventory & Quality Control 

  • Ensure inventory accuracy through proper transaction processing and physical verification 

  • Support cycle counting and inventory reconciliation activities 

  • Investigate discrepancies and implement preventive measures 

  • Maintain high standards of quality in packaging, labeling, and shipment preparation 

Continuous Improvement & Cost Management 

  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce operational costs 

  • Monitor KPIs and drive corrective actions to improve performance 

  • Support lean initiatives and standard work development 

  • Optimize labor utilization and reduce overtime where possible 

Communication & Reporting 

  • Provide shift performance updates to the Logistics Operations Manager 

  • Track and report KPIs such as productivity, service level, safety incidents, and inventory accuracy 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional Teams (Customer Service, Planning, Compliance, Transportation)

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • High school diploma required 

  • 3+ years of warehouse/logistics experience 

  • 1+ year of Team leadership or supervisory experience 

  • Working knowledge of shipping, receiving, and inventory control 

  • Experience with WMS/ERP systems 

  • Strong safety awareness in a warehouse environment 

  • Ability to work second shift and overtime as needed 

  • Strong communication, organization, and sense of urgency 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or related field 

  • Experience in a high-volume or fast-paced distribution environment 

  • Knowledge of Lean / continuous improvement principles (e.g., 5S) 

  • Experience leading performance metrics (SQDC, productivity, service) 

  • Material handling equipment certification (e.g., forklift) 

PHYSICAL / WORKING DEMANDS: 

  • Equipment use includes Teams meeting, PC, and Microsoft. 

  • Ability to read and understand both spoken and written instructions and good vision is required 

  • Maintain a safe working environment and comply with all safety and environmental policies/procedures.
