JOB PURPOSE or JOB SUMMARY:

The quality engineer reports to the Quality Manager. This role requires a driven and detail-oriented engineer with the education and professional experience to build and maintain an exceptional quality management system and quality products.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Investigate multiple field returns/customer complaints for root cause, corrective actions and preventative actions as well as provide reports on internal and external corrective action effectiveness and timeliness as part of customer satisfaction.

· Lead cross-functional teams to address and resolve internal product/process quality issues; perform validations of corrective and preventative actions.

· Ensure appropriate Quality Management System training and processes are in place for all manufactured products.

· Participate in ISO 9001 Quality management system certification preparation and maintenance to ensure on-going ISO 9001 requirements are continuously met.

· Perform supplier audits and facilitate new supplier approvals with purchasing, manufacturing and engineering.

· Create supplier quality complaint reports and work with purchasing and suppliers to determine corrective actions.

· Perform machine/process capability (CPK) on new and existing machines in manufacturing.

· Generate reports on quality key performance indicators (KPI), interpret KPI trends and facilitate process improvement initiatives to meet strategic goals.

· Provide quality support and training to other departments including Spare parts, engineering, manufacturing, service, logistics and materials management.

· Facilitate cross functional teams to review high risk orders for completeness

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

· Bachelor’s degree in engineering specialty with a quality emphasis. (Industrial Engineering degree preferred)

· At least 2-3 years’ experience working in the quality engineering field preferred or equivalent internship experiences/projects

· Knowledge of packaging equipment, project management and customer relations is a plus.

· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Visual Basic)

· Strong Analytical and problem-solving skills

· Proficient knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques (Six Sigma, 8D, Kaizen etc.) and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerances (GD&T)

· Must have outstanding communication skills with high attention to detail. Substantial interpersonal interaction is required, which may require formal presentations, written proposals and reports, etc.

· The right candidate should be a highly- motivated, self-directed, conscientious, team oriented, very flexible, responsive, and creative.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience and/or Training:

· ISO9001 experience preferred

· Power BI experience preferred

· SAP or SAP S/4HANA experience preferred

· CQE (or other relevant certifications)

· Gauging or metrology experience preferred

· Metric system and DIN specifications experience preferred

 

SKILLS:

Professional Skills:

· Market knowledge, process and structural knowledge, knowledge of business administration, and knowledge of policies, directives, guidelines, and standards. Knowledge of SAP Applications, MS Office Suite, and Krones Portfolio.

 

Soft Skills:

· General social skills, capacity for teamwork, customer orientation, learning aptitude, problem-solving competence, leadership skills, time- and self-management, coordination and organizational skills, and negotiation skills.

 

PHYSICAL / WORKING DEMANDS:

1) Generally good working conditions in a manufacturing plant. Moderate physical effort including frequent standing/walking and occasional exposure to high noise levels may be required. During the summer months exposure to heat and humidity may occur. Lifting/carrying objects up to a maximum of 50 pounds is necessary. The ability to twist, bend, stoop and climb is also required. Noise levels in work areas may fluctuate from 82 to 110 decibels.

2) Equipment use includes telephone, PC, various measuring devices, hand, and power tools as well as other tools/machinery used in the work unit.

3) Ability to read and understand both spoken and written instructions and good vision is required.

4) Personal protective equipment includes protective toed, oil/chip safety shoes; safety glasses with side shields; work gloves when appropriate.

5) Appropriate OSHA safety training required.

6) Maintain a safe working environment and comply with all safety and environmental policies/procedures. Each employee is to place environment, health, and safety requirements as the priority in the performance of their work duties. An employee is responsible for notifying their immediate supervisor of a violation or deficiency in working conditions and for recommending corrective measures, if possible. Additionally, the employee’s immediate supervisor is to be notified of every injury or illness or near miss.

7) Must be able to travel up to 15% of the time
