As a Machining Youth Apprentice, you will be involved with precision manufacturing – learning from experienced machinists, working on cutting-edge equipment, and building skills that can launch your career before graduation.

In this position, you will work under the guidance of experienced machinists and receive hands-on training with tools and machinery used in our Machining Department. Under this guidance, you will learn and perform the following tasks:
- Set up and operate CNC machines to produce parts per prints
- Perform first piece and in-process quality inspections
- Read drawings/prints to identify operations, specifications, and tolerances
- Utilize precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to ensure specifications are met
- Assist with organizing the tool crib and other tooling tasks, as needed
- Help maintain a clean and organized work area (5S) with tasks such as wiping down machines, vacuuming, sweeping, etc.
- Assist in other departments, as needed, to gain a better understanding of our processes and workflow
Expectations:
- Work a minimum of 10 hours per week during the school year and 30-40 hours per week during the summer. The youth apprentice is expected to work a consistent schedule and come in to work for a duration of at least 3 hours at a time. To earn the Wisconsin Youth Apprenticeship Certificate, the youth apprentice must work a minimum of 450 hours per year.
- Maintain good attendance, punctuality, and communication
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) consisting of safety shoes and safety glasses
Requirements:
- Must be a Junior or Senior that is currently enrolled in high school and on track to graduate
- Must be eligible for a youth apprenticeship block during the school year to allow for a work schedule that aligns with our 1st shift so we can ensure the apprentice has sufficient support
- Must be at least 16 years old by the start of the apprenticeship
- Must have reliable transportation to and from the workplace
- Possess attention to detail and willingness to learn
- Possess strong math skills and mechanical aptitude
